I’ve just finished redesigning my main website (weakchild.com) and so far I’ve been happy with it…I get to play around with using JQuery to present my portfolio; which is probably my favorite part of the site…I have a few plans to add more stuff to it; mainly some Flash animations…which leads me to this:

see these “kewl” drawings?

I wanted to animate them with Flash; wouldn’t it be awesome to see that zombie trying to dig it self out? Or see the robot and the iPhone dance? Well due to the fact that I want to support as much of the browsers out there, and Apple deciding not to support Flash on the iPhone or iPad, I came to the conclusion that I probably should leave them as jpegs…All is not lost though, because there are ways around it..I could probably use a browser detect script to replace the swfs with jpegs for Mobile Safari…we’ll see, but right now I like the way my site looks …Please feel free to take a look around!

UUGGGHHH…I’ve gotten sidetracked with other stuff going on, specifically with my band Andalusian Dog… I haven’t done anything this past month regarding this animation project because I’ve been playing the role of a band promoter…We’ve got a couple of shows comin up but I really want to devote more time into doing this animation…Rough story board has been done, but I probably need to refine it some more…I’ll try to record some rough dialogue this week as well…we’ll see..I just wanted to update this blog, at least that’ll probably help me get back into the groove.

Story Acts Breakdown with Star Wars as an example

Whilst digging deeper into concept art and pre-production, I still go and review the main concept behind the project..I look back through my notes and see if the story could use some tweaking..Is there even a core idea I want to convey? Should an episodic format be treated differently than a feature length or self contained short film? Perhaps..

I’m lucky to have come across these videos by Doug TenNapel (Earthworm Jim) talking about storytelling in a lecture he has done in Art Institute Inland Empire…Some very good points within the 52-minute lecture…certainly great watch to those who are interested in storytelling in general..I plan to re-watch it over and over just to have it simmer in my thick skull..Also, bonus video of him talking about his process of making a graphic novel. Enjoy!

Snowed In!

Howdy! First Post!

Snow poured in starting last night and we are expected to get hit with up to 15 inches of the icy stuff..Being stuck inside for the next 2 days I figured this would be the perfect time to do some online housecleaning…Weakchild.com redesign should be done by early 2010 though i want to have this blog up and running.

I expect this blog to be more of a production kind; keeping track of my projects and other ventures– be it web design, animation or the occasional paintings.
